PIME Vidya Bhavan

In 1989 PIME took the historic decision to admit Indian students into PIME, in view of this decision, it found Pune as a suitable place for study of Philosophy. The PIME Vidya Bhavan seminary was officially blessed by Rt. Rev. Valerian D’Souza, the bishop of Pune diocese on the 6th January 1994 and was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Benito Picascia, the then Regional Superior of India. When the desire rose among the superiors to erect a seminary in Pune, the core purpose was that all those seminarians, who pass through this house may draw the maximum knowledge of the Christian faith and the mission of Christ, thus growing in wisdom and grace towards the full realization of the missionary cum priestly commitment. It is for this reason that the seminary took on its name PIME Vidya Bhavan.
In 1997, the members of the General direction decided that India can have the Year of Spirituality in PIME Vidya Bhavan, Pune. Since then this seminary has been catering for the three-year formation programme: two years of philosophical studies and one year of spirituality (excluding the regency experienced). All the PIME seminarians complete their first cycle of formation here at PIME Vidya Bhavan with their Initial Promise to the Institute and then proceed for their second cycle of formation in Italy i.e. for Theology.
